Why HSPs Struggle to Find the Right Career (And What I Wish I’d Known Sooner)
Ever since I entered the workforce (about 30 years ago), my career journey has been a major source of doubt, burnout, and stress for me. And this surprised me, because, like so many highly sensitive people (HSPs), I was extremely intelligent, observant, and constantly praised by my family, teachers, and managers. I believed I would succeed in anything in life, and when it came to climbing the corporate ladder, I couldn’t wait to get started.
I had no idea how different my real-life career trajectory would be compared to my expectations.
Why Highly Sensitive People Need to Trust Their Own Path
After a beautiful year of slowing down and rediscovering myself post-divorce, I am finally emerging from a season of deep rest and redirecting my energy toward building my next chapter. It has been a life-changing year, to say the least, and I’m so grateful that I took the time I needed — without guilt — to reflect, grow, and “be.”
I had invested nearly 25 years in my relationship with my ex-husband, and there was a lot to unravel. Nothing happened that was too difficult or life-shattering, per se, but when you spend that much time with someone, recognizing where they end and you begin can get a bit fuzzy.
